The Dawn of A Life In Purgatory

The Veil is Breaking. The Truth is a Weapon.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our newest competitive card game: A Life In Purgatory

This is not a game of brute force; it’s a high-stakes, social deception card game where players must use their wit to bluff or convince their way to power. The ancient realms of Heaven and Hell are not fighting with swords, but with Belief and Doubt on the mortal plane of Purgatory.

A Life In Purgatory is a game for 2-4 players where you draw upon divine and demonic powers, but only if you can successfully manipulate the convictions of your opponents.

The Core Conflict: A Test of Belief

The game begins when each player draws a Character Card (perhaps the resilient Priest, the imposing Satan, or the heavenly Angel), which grants them their starting Life Tokens (hearts). The objective is simple: be the last player remaining with any amount of life tokens left.

But how do you gain the power to survive? By successfully navigating the moral maze of Purgatory.

Every turn, a player must draw a card from the central Purgatory Deck and decide whether they will use it to tell a Truth or a Lie.

  • The Power of Truth: If you tell a truth, and the majority of players believe you, you are rewarded with a Heaven Card—cards that hold powerful defensive buffs, healing effects, and the potential to instantly win the game (The Holy Grail!).

  • The Reward of Deception: If you successfully tell a lie, and the majority of players believe your deception, you draw a Hell Card—cards that specialize in brutal attacks, debuffs, and chaos that drain your opponents' lives.

Key Gameplay Hooks

  • The Purgatory Challenge: Purgatory cards come in types—from reading a true fact versus a false one (Fact or Lie) to swapping a key word in a real headline (Headline Quotes). The challenge is convincing others of your intent.

  • The Group Verdict: Every opponent must play their Lie or Truth Indicator Card face-down to vote on your statement. The majority verdict determines your fate and your reward.

  • Level-Based Combat: The Heaven and Hell cards you collect are your arsenal. They feature Lvl markers, meaning a Level 3 Attack can only be blocked by a Level 3 or higher Defence card. Fail to block, and you lose a life token! (For advanced players, there’s even an optional rule to Stack Lvl cards to unleash truly devastating attacks.)

Why You’ll Love It

  • Social & Strategic: It perfectly blends the social fun of bluffing with the deep strategy of card resource management.

  • High Replay ability: The three card types (Heaven, Hell, Purgatory) create endless interactions, and the Advanced Play Rules offer a significant strategic shift for veterans.

  • Epic Theme: Command iconic figures like the Unicorn, Hellhound, and Demons in a battle where your poker face is your strongest defence.
