AI - To scorn or not to scorn?
The use of AI in the industry is one that divides people into two groups. Those who are ok with it and those who hate it.
It goes without saying that we sit within the ok with it faction given the images for our game utilise AI as a tool to help in the initial design phase of our process. But why do we use AI over a human?
To put it simply the answer comes down to cost, when starting out we did not have the funds to pay for the artwork ideas to be generated by a human. It is not that we did not wish to use humans however in the beginning the funds needed to do so did not exist and thus AI was a necessary avenue.
While AI did create the images the design efforts, artistic direction and outcomes were all driven by humans. AI prompts created seed images which were then used along side prompts to create and tweak additional images until he final design was perfected and individualised.
AI images are a part of the process they are not the end result, the images that are generated using AI are then given to an artist who uses them as a base to then design and create the new image. While in some cases the end result is almost identical, the final image is still created by a human using the AI as the base from which they work from.
